Be Low Maintenance

As a manager, here’s my advice to all my team members: Be Low Maintenance.

What does being low maintenance mean?

  1. Be as independent as you can be in completing tasks assigned to you.
  2. Seek answers and solutions on your own if you can, without your supervisor telling you what to do.
  3. Deliver high-quality work without needing your supervisor to tell you what it means.
  4. Try to solve your own interpersonal issues without your supervisor having to bat for you.
  5. Minimize seeking feedback and validation about the work you do.
  6. Refrain from frequently(e.g., every month) discussing salary raises or career growth.

You will be your manager’s hero If he/she can count on you to come in and do your job with little hand-holding.
