Earlier this evening, I was conversing with a colleague who holds an important leadership role. We discussed the changes he is making to his leadership style as he continues to grow in his role.
During our conversation, I shared my belief that leadership should always be anchored to a higher purpose. When a leader prioritizes the well-being of others, they can become an inspiration to those around them. A leader is merely a means to an end, a steward of a larger cause helping others to succeed.
A leader must hold the context together to channel people’s focus and energy towards an ambitious future. He/she must enable progress by challenging others to operate at their best, asking the right questions, coaching them, and learning in the process.
A good leader is one who is humble and devoted to the needs of others.
