It may seem obvious, but many of us lie to ourselves about ourselves in many situations. We ignore telltale signs that indicate we’re not headed in the right direction because we don’t want to hurt our self-esteem. It’s easier to believe that external factors are to blame and that everything is okay on our end. Admitting failure is painful, so we avoid it.
However, when we deceive ourselves today, we harm ourselves tomorrow.
Self-honesty is essential if you want to achieve consistent success. Do you know where you stand and what you’re doing well or not so well? Can you honestly evaluate your performance without waiting for someone else to point out where you stand?
Improvement can only happen when you are honest about yourself.
