Inner Weather

Inner weather

I think about my moods the way I think about the weather.

The weather is what it is. One day it is dark and rainy. No amount of wishing can change it. It might stay grey for that day, a few days, or even a week. You do not argue with it. You simply accept weather for what it is.

But you also know something else to be true. The sun will come out. You may not be sure when. But it will.

Our inner weather works the same way.

Some days you wake up, and everything feels heavy. Flat. Off. And the instinct is to fight it, to ask what is wrong with me, to force the mood to lift. But some days are just grey inside, and that is alright. It is not your fault, and it is not permanent.

You cannot make the sun shine on demand. The skill is finding a mental umbrella. Telling yourself it is raining inside today. There is nothing to fix. I will sit it out.

Because the weather always turns.

And when the sun comes out, and it will, you take full advantage of it.
