Weekend Story-Hubris
January 7, 2024
In the ancient city of Crete, a master craftsman named Daedalus created a marvel – wings crafted from feathers and wax that could help anyone fly. Daedalus presented his creation to his son, Icarus, with a solemn warning: “Fly neither too high nor too low, for the middle path is the safest.”
However, young Icarus, fuelled by exuberance and blinded by ambition, paid little heed to his father’s caution. As he took flight, the sun’s tempting glow beckoned him higher, whispering promises of unparalleled glory for he would be the man who could fly.
Caught in the intoxicating allure of his own ascent, Icarus soared recklessly toward the heavens. The wax, designed to withstand reasonable altitudes, began to wilt under the relentless gaze of the sun. Ignoring the voice of reason, Icarus soared higher, his wings melting, until, with a tragic inevitability, he plummeted to the unforgiving sea below. Hubris consumed Icarus.
