Helping folks with practical tips to manage themselves better

See It From Their Side

seeing it from their side

Empathy is one of the most underrated skills in life and work.

I don’t mean the soft, feel-good version. I mean it in a more practical sense.

The ability to step out of your own head for a moment and genuinely see the situation from where the other person is standing.

You think a colleague is not doing their job well. Before reacting, ask how your words might land on the other side.

You have explained something three times, and they still do not get it. Instead of getting irritated, ask what they might actually be hearing, because clearly it is not what you think you are saying.

You are building a product. Stop looking at it as the creator. Sit in the customer’s chair. Would you understand it? Would you actually want it?

Your spouse says something in a way that annoys you. Before reacting, ask what in your own tone or manner may have contributed to that response.

The moment you stop seeing only your side and start seeing theirs, the situation changes.

Understanding their viewpoint does not mean agreeing with it.

But empathy does something important. It keeps the conversation from becoming “me versus you.” You can now stand on the same side and look at the problem together.

Most conflicts are not simply a clash of facts.

They are two people, each seeing only their own side.

Empathy is what allows both of them to see the whole picture.
