For most of us, much of what happens in our lives every day goes well and according to plan.
But sometimes, things don’t always go the way we want them to. Situations don’t go according to plan, and people don’t operate the way we want them to.
When things don’t go the way we want them to, we tend to react in one of three ways. We lose our cool and give in to feelings of aggression, frustration, or depression. Unfortunately, when we react this way, we make things worse for ourselves and others.
A better way is to take a pause and respond gracefully from a space of peace and clarity. When we are peaceful, we can make thoughtful, mature choices about what response will be most appropriate and effective in a given situation. We get the strength to deal with whatever happens with grace.
I have this simple mental model for dealing with whatever life throws at me.
When things happen the way we want them to and when we get what we wish – Be grateful.
But, when things don’t go according to plan, and we don’t get what we want- Be graceful.
