The Privilege Of Pressure
April 18, 2026
When no one relies on you, when no one expects something from you, it often means you are irrelevant. There is no pressure in irrelevance.
In contrast, when you are relevant, there is naturally some pressure, because your decisions matter and people depend on you. Your presence counts. Your absence is felt. What you do, or fail to do, has consequences. It means you matter in the scheme of affairs.
Many people want importance, but do not want the pressure that comes with it. But the two often travel together.
In my coaching conversations, whenever someone tells me they feel overwhelmed by the weight of responsibility, I tell them not to see it only as a burden. See it also for what it is: a sign that you are relevant, that your contribution matters, and that life has placed some weight on your shoulders for a reason.
Being relevant is a privilege
