Make The Opportunity Count
February 19, 2021
This afternoon I was in conversation with a friend of mine, and we were exchanging ideas about how one should respond to opportunities that come our way.
This conversation triggered a memory of an interview that Shahrukh Khan, the Bollywood Superstar, gave many years ago.
In that Interview, Anupam Kher, the host, asks Shahrukh Khan about the secret of his success. SRK responds very innocently, ” Sir, I work very hard.”
Anupam Kher, with an incredulous look on his face, asks SRK, ” There are close to 2000 people who come to Mumbai every day hoping to work hard and make a future. What is it that has helped you become the superstar?”
SRK clarifies his earlier comment, ” Everyone works hard for an opportunity, but after getting one, there is no one who can work harder than I do.”
This comment by SRK has stayed with me all these years.
Opportunities come along for everyone. The difference between those who experience success consistently and those who do not is how they process the opportunity. The successful ones recognize the opportunity for what it is and don’t squander it while the others are unconscious of the opportunity even when it is in plain sight.
