Weekend Story-Peace Of Mind

Peace

In a small coastal village, lived an old fisherman named Miguel. Every day, he ventured out to sea in his weathered boat, content with his simple life. Every day, he would return with just enough fish to feed his family and sell in the market for a few necessities.

One beautiful morning, Miguel cast his net and felt a stronger pull than usual. After a struggle, when he tugged into his net, he discovered a large pearl unlike any he’d ever seen. It shimmered with an otherworldly glow, the size of his fist, and perfectly round.

News of Miguel’s pearl spread throughout the coastal village. People marveled at its beauty, whispering it could bring immense wealth. Miguel’s mind was filled with visions of a grand house, finer clothes, and a life of luxury. He dreamt of finally being secure, free from the daily worries of a fisherman’s life.

However, a strange unease settled within him. Nightmares of thieves and misfortune now plagued the once peaceful nights. The simple joys of his life, the smell of the sea, and the camaraderie with fellow fishermen all seemed dulled by the weight of his newfound treasure.

One day, Miguel sat by the shore, the pearl glinting beside him. An old woman, known for her wisdom, approached him. She noticed the pearl and the dark circles under his eyes.

“That pearl,” she said gently, “holds a great price, but does it bring you peace?”

Miguel shook his head, confessing his worries and sleepless nights.

The wise woman smiled. “True wealth, Miguel, lies not in possessions but in the peace they bring. The sea has always provided for you and, with it, a contented heart. Consider this: is a life of worry worth a pearl, however magnificent?”

Miguel looked at the pearl, its brilliance now seeming cold and hollow. He realized his peace, his most valuable treasure, was slipping away.

The following day, Miguel returned to the sea. He didn’t go fishing but to a place known for its beauty and tranquillity. There, with a heavy heart but a lighter spirit, he cast the pearl back into the ocean.

Peace washed over him like gentle waves. He returned to his simple life, the worries replaced by the familiar contentment.

He knew true wealth wasn’t something you could hold, but a state of being, a peace worth more than any pearl.
