The Cost Of Not Trying

Last week, while visiting India, I caught up with an old friend who had an offer for a role abroad. It wasn’t perfect, he said, but it excited him. Still, he was doing well in his current role, and that made him hesitate. He was unsure, overthinking, waiting for a sign.

I asked him just one question: “If you don’t do this, will you regret it a year from now?” He paused… and nodded.

Here’s the thing: most people don’t regret what they did. They regret what they didn’t do. The call not made. The idea not pursued. The move not taken.

Regret lingers longer than failure.

My friend messaged me yesterday. He’s taking the offer. He said he didn’t want to look back one day and wished he had.
