Own My Growth

Helping folks with practical tips to manage themselves better

Make Their Life Easier

make their life easier

I got my first real break early in my career.
I didn’t know why at the time.
But years later, my boss told me straight:
“You made my life easier.”

That stuck.

Most people think promotions and growth come from being the smartest in the room.
But in reality, they come from being the most useful.

Your manager is your biggest advocate — or blocker.
And your growth often depends on how easy you make it for them to trust you.

Here’s what I learned:

  1. Know what matters to your boss. Their priorities are your compass.
  2. Handle your space well. No surprises, no fires. Stay off the problem radar.
  3. Take ownership before being asked. Show up like it’s your job already.

Do that consistently, and something shifts.
You’re not just doing your work, you’re helping them do theirs.

And that’s when doors start to open.
