3 Tips To More Confidence
July 13, 2023

When I began my career, I was fortunate to have a line manager who taught me invaluable life lessons.
One of the most impactful lessons was the importance of exuding confidence.
“When interacting with potential clients in sales, it is crucial to exude confidence. People who appear confident are often perceived as competent. Additionally, confidence enhances productivity and encourages a willingness to take calculated risks, vital for advancing one’s career.Confidence is a skill that can be nurtured, so it should be a priority,” he explained.
He imparted three powerful tips to help me project confidence and self-assurance.
Wear A Smile
When you smile, your mood instantly improves. More importantly, it conveys confidence. A friendly and approachable demeanor makes you appear composed. Even if you’re nervous and don’t feel like smiling, try to “fake it until you make it” by consciously smiling. This will naturally make you look confident.
Speak Slowly And Clearly
When you’re feeling nervous or facing a challenging sales negotiation, you tend to speak rapidly without realizing it. Speaking too fast reflects nervousness and insecurity. On the other hand, speaking in a composed and relaxed manner gives the impression of confidence and self-assurance.
Maintain Eye Contact
Although it may seem obvious, consciously maintaining eye contact can genuinely make you look confident. Firm eye contact is a powerful indicator of confidence. It establishes a connection, demonstrates sincerity, and projects self-esteem, assertiveness, and confidence. Based on my experience, maintaining confident eye contact also helps build trust.
By showing up with confidence, you will naturally appear competent. This powerful life lesson from my first boss has stayed with me throughout my career.
