Helping folks with practical tips to manage themselves better

Your Intent Is Your Compass

Intent

Recently, I found myself assisting a young colleague in crafting a product proposal to present to a potential client. While the initial draft was promising, it primarily represented my colleague’s perspective rather than what would truly resonate with the client.

I emphasized to my colleague that he needs to be clear about his intention when presenting something to others. We must ask ourselves whether our purpose is to convey a personal viewpoint or to persuade the client, in a compelling way, to embrace our solution.

No matter how polished and sophisticated a proposal might appear, its ultimate effectiveness hinges on whether it delivers value to the recipient. This value is necessary for a meaningful connection to happen.

Your intent is your guiding compass when conveying some message – a presentation, proposal, or pitch- to someone. It requires you to be clear about why you’re presenting the proposal, who your audience is, and the specific problem or challenge you intend to address. When you offer genuine value to your target audience, you foster a connection that yields a lasting impact and positive outcomes.
