Weekend Story-Value Begets Value
June 23, 2025
An old tailor served the city’s wealthiest families. He was humble, almost too much, waiting quietly, sometimes for hours, while his clients went about their day. They would eventually call him in, distractedly give their measurements, and send him off—no urgency, no courtesy, no tea.
One day, a new upscale tailor arrived in town. He charged more and carried himself differently. “I have 30 minutes,” he’d say. “Everyone who needs fitting must be ready when I arrive.”
The same families who made the old tailor wait now cleared their schedules for the new one. They greeted him, offered refreshments, and moved quickly to make the most of his time.
One day, both tailors were at the same home. The old tailor watched as the new one was welcomed, given priority, served tea, and done in 30 minutes. It hit him then: Being good isn’t enough. People value you when they see you as valuable. Value begets value.
