Helping folks with practical tips to manage themselves better

Hard Does Not Mean Wrong

hard does not mean wrong

We often make a strange mistake in life.

When something feels hard, we assume we are not good at it.

But lifting a heavy weight is supposed to feel difficult. The difficulty is not evidence that you are bad at lifting. It is the reason you become stronger.

The same is true of building a career, learning a new skill, leading people, having a difficult conversation, or creating something meaningful.

The danger is that we interpret discomfort as evidence that we are not good enough.

Sometimes that may be true.

But often, difficulty is simply part of doing something that matters.

So when something feels hard, ask yourself:

Is this evidence that I am bad at it, or simply evidence that I am doing something difficult?
