Be Bigger Than The Moment
September 23, 2026
There are moments when I get far more emotionally charged than I should.
Something is not moving the way I want. A conversation goes badly. A decision makes no sense to me. Someone does not respond the way I expected.
And in those moments, the situation can completely take over.
I find myself reacting, replaying it, and getting more frustrated until the problem feels much bigger than it probably is.
That is when I try to remind myself of something simple.
Be bigger than the moment.
The problem still needs dealing with. The conversation may still need to happen. Something may still need to change.
But I do not have to let the situation decide how I show up.
I can step back. Put some distance between what happened and how I am reacting to it. Ask what actually matters now, and what the most useful next thing to do is.
I do not always succeed. Today I did not. I could not find that distance while the conversation was happening. It only came later, once things had cooled, when I sat down to think it through.
Maybe that is enough. The distance does not always arrive in time to change the moment. But it still arrives. And each time it does, I understand a little better how I want to handle the next one.
