Helping folks with practical tips to manage themselves better

7 Effective Habits

7 effective habits

No matter how competent one is, it is not possible to have sustained and lasting success unless they have some personal habits and rituals to manage themselves effectively.

Stephen R. Covey’s book, The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, is a book that occupies a pride of place in my book collection. It is a book that I go to every few months to remind myself of the timeless principles of personal effectiveness.

His first three habits guide on traits of self-mastery. Actions we can take to be effective in whatever we do.

The following three habits focus on the aspects of interdependence and what we can all do to work effectively with others.

The seventh habit asks us to focus on continuous improvement while balancing our personal and professional spheres.

Habit 1: Be Proactive

Instead of focusing on what you can’t control or influence, focus on what you can.

Habit 2: Begin With the End in Mind

Decide what success looks like and work backwards from there.

Habit 3: Put First Things First

Instead of constantly reacting to urgent matters, prioritize your most important goals and work on them first.

Habit 4: Always Think Win-Win

Build high-trust relationships of trust that will enable you to work and collaborate more effectively.

Habit 5: Seek First To Understand, Then To Be Understood

We can Influence others by deeply understanding their needs and perspectives.

Habit 6: Synergize

Find innovative ways to leverage differences and satisfy all stakeholders.

Habit 7: Sharpen The Saw

Make time for activities that renew your motivation, energy, and work-life balance.
