Key To Making Transitions
January 18, 2024
This evening, I caught up with a friend and an ex-colleague who is currently in a career transition. We got chatting about how transitions can be a period of uncertainty and anxiousness.
The hardest part of any personal transition or change is always in the “starting.” We wonder if we’re ready, if the timing is right, If we have what it takes, or If we need more preparation. The answers will always be uncertain. However, what is certain is that if we don’t act, we will not be able to move forward, and no real change will happen.
The key to making transitions is not to aim for a perfect start but to commit and start – and then iterate, understand, learn, adapt, and align to create change. When we commit to this process, the muscle memory of our skills and competencies will kick in, and the uncertainty and anxiousness will slowly but surely ebb.
