Early Feedback Or Late Criticism?
April 24, 2024
One of my mentors shared this valuable advice with me many years ago: No one likes receiving negative feedback or criticism, but everyone appreciates clarity. So whenever you have to give feedback to anyone, remind yourself that the feedback you give must provide the other person a clear view of where they are wrong and how they can improve.
Most of us hesitate to give others negative feedback because we fear they may not take it well. However, if the feedback can help the other person understand where they currently stand and what they need to do to improve, they will always appreciate it.
Early feedback is always better than late criticism. Delaying the conversation or giving indirect feedback won’t help in the long run, and the recipient will not feel any better when the real issue is finally addressed.
