Learning The Hard Way
July 10, 2025
As a parent, I often find myself giving my kids advice.
“Do it this way.“
“Don’t do that.”
Unsurprisingly, it annoys them. They think I’m offering unsolicited advice. Most times, they’re right, and I take that on the chin.
But every now and then, I feel strongly enough to insist. And when they push back, I say this:
Mistakes aren’t the best teacher. They are just the most expensive.
You can start at the bottom, take every wrong turn, and learn everything the hard way. Or you can learn from others, skip a few avoidable detours, and move forward smarter.
The wise learn from others. The foolish insist on learning from pain.
All I want is for them to choose the wiser path, even if it’s not always the easy one.
