Obvious In Hindsight
July 28, 2025
Yesterday, I shared the story of Columbus and the egg and how a simple tap made the impossible obvious.
I find myself thinking more about the story’s message.
Once something is working — once it looks obvious — people tend to dismiss the effort, the courage, or the clarity it took to get there.
We forget the ambiguity that existed before the breakthrough.
That’s the strange thing about insight: once seen, it feels obvious.
But someone still had to go first. Someone had to try, fail, and figure it out.
It’s easy to copy the move. Harder to create it.
