Being valuable and useful is all you really need to do to be effective in sales.
Help people out. Share ideas that can genuinely improve their business. If you have a point of view that can help them think differently or act better, say it. Not about your product, but about their problem.
Make introductions where it adds value. Connect people who should know each other. Add context where it helps. Then step back.
Do all of this authentically, and do it without expecting anything in return(this is key).
People begin to trust you. They start seeing you as someone who is on their side. Not selling to them, but thinking with them.
And when the moment comes where they need what you offer, they do
not look around.
They come to you.
That, I’ve realised, is what effective selling really looks like.
