What’s Your End Game?

End Game

I wrote a blog titled The Fisherman’s Parable a couple of years back.

The parable is about a business executive who tries to convince a fisherman to give up his idyllic lifestyle to set up a fishing business, only to realize in the end that, ultimately, the fisherman is enjoying the life he desires without the need to do anything complicated.

We all live in an era where many push themselves to do something just because someone else is doing it. Someone got into programming; I’ll get into programming; someone invested in the stock market, I will follow suit; or someone quits and changes career, I will also think of doing it.

Herd mentality is real, and all of us are susceptible to it. But unfortunately, it doesn’t work because what works for someone else will not necessarily work for you. Because you are different from someone else, and, more importantly, because your end goals will always be different.

The best way to avoid being caught up in the herd mentality is to be clear about what is important to you. Be clear about what you want. What do you want to achieve and why? Is it to do your own thing or do what others are doing?
