Helping folks with practical tips to manage themselves better

Focus On Your Own Journey

Your own journey

When catching up with old colleagues and friends, it’s common to hear about what everyone is up to in their careers. There’s usually a bit of gossip and envy involved, like “Oh, did you know? She got a big promotion. I wonder how she did it,” or “He seems to be doing really well; I see him talking about all these new clients he’s getting,” and so on. Many friends have told me, “You seem so much happier since leaving your corporate job.”

I always emphasize that no one truly knows what someone else’s life is like. For example, an entrepreneur who recently secured a big round of funding might make others envious, but at the same time, they could be under a lot of stress, worrying about scaling the business and meeting investors’ expectations.

Looking at people’s social media, it may seem like everyone else is succeeding while you’re not. It’s good to keep up with what others are doing, but it’s ultimately pointless. You’ll never really know the truth about someone else’s life.

So, instead of getting caught up in other people’s successes or failures, focus on your own journey because that’s the only one that truly matters. Everything else is, at best, irrelevant and, at worst, a distraction.
