Avoidance Is Fear In Action
March 6, 2025
A client asks for a commitment we can’t meet. Instead of a quick, clear “No, we can’t support this request,” the team hesitates. They worry. What if we lose the deal? What if the client takes their business elsewhere? And so, they avoid responding-hoping the problem will disappear or that the client won’t push further.
But here’s the thing: Fear feeds on avoidance. The longer we stall, the bigger the issue becomes. Clients sense hesitation. Doubt creeps in. And suddenly, what could have been a straightforward conversation turns into a credibility problem.
The right move? Show up. Respond with clarity and confidence. No unnecessary justifications, no delay. A strong “No, we can’t, but here’s what we can do” is far better than an uncertain silence. Clients don’t just buy solutions- they buy confidence. Avoidance is a fear response that then kills trust. The only way to deal with the fear is by taking action.
