Why I Write My Goals Down
April 9, 2025
Last evening, during a conversation, I got to share my personal and professional goals for the year with a young colleague. They are written down in my journal…..clear, specific, and intentional. He was surprised, especially by how explicitly I had noted my personal goals. Curious, he asked, “Does writing them down really help?”
I told him about a well-known study from Dominican University, where researchers found that people who write down their goals are significantly more likely to achieve them and also tend to have higher earnings over their lifetime.
I am a big believer in Jim Rohn’s timeless wisdom on goal setting……
“The real value in setting goals is not in their achievement. The acquisition of the things you want is strictly secondary. The major reason for setting goals is to compel you to become the person it takes to achieve them.”
