Put In The Work-Confidence Will Follow

put in the work

I was in Jakarta recently, and after a fruitful client pitch, a young colleague on the technical side who had joined me for the meeting pulled me aside. First, he offered a kind word of appreciation—he liked how I handled some of the client’s pointed questions with calmness and clarity.

Then he asked something that stuck with me:

“How do you answer technical questions with so much confidence, even though you operate at such a high level?”

My simple answer- My confidence comes from the work I put in.

I’ve seen this across every role—whether you’re selling, leading, or building something. The people who hold their own in tough conversations aren’t winging it. They’ve put in the hours. They’ve studied the product, asked the dumb questions, and dug into the edge cases.

Uncertainty shows up when preparation doesn’t. But if you’ve done the work, you don’t need to bluff. You know where you’re solid and where you’re not.

And that clarity is what creates real confidence.

So, if you ever feel uncertain before a meeting or presentation, don’t fixate on the nerves. Fix your preparation.

Earn your confidence. Put in the work.

It always shows.
