Perception Is Reality
July 2, 2025
One of the most common pieces of feedback I give to my team, both direct and skip-level, is this: your intent doesn’t matter as much as how others experience your actions.
Perception is reality.
If you don’t actively shape how your work is understood, someone else will shape it for you.
Communicating with stakeholders, engaging them on what you’re prioritizing, where you’re heading, and what you expect—this isn’t optional.
It’s part of the job if you want to be taken seriously.
Doing meaningful work in stealth mode and expecting people to “get it” later is naive. You may have the best of intentions, but if no one sees the signal, it gets lost in the noise.
Control the narrative. Or the narrative will control you.
