The Pull Of A Problem

pull of a problem

It was a good day today. I spent it with a couple of clients, digging into problem areas in their businesses and thinking about how technology might help solve them.

By the end of those conversations, I noticed something. I felt inspired.

And it made me wonder where that feeling actually comes from.

It wasn’t because I had the answers. Quite the opposite. I was sitting with problems I didn’t fully understand yet, turning them over, wondering how we might crack them.

That is when I feel most alive in my work. Not when I have it figured out, but when I am still figuring it out.

The moment I convince myself I have mastered something, the work goes flat. Curiosity starts to drain away. But put a problem in front of me that I cannot yet solve, and the energy comes back.

Maybe that is what inspiration really is.

Just the pull of a problem I have not yet solved.
