Helping folks with practical tips to manage themselves better

Sometimes, Timing Is Quality

Timing is quality

A senior executive shares a problem with you. You discuss a possible solution. The conversation is alive, the need is real, and you agree to come back with something.

You spend a week perfecting the proposal.

By the time you send it, the moment has passed.

The proposal may be better, but its leverage is lower.

Another scenario. Someone raises a concern, and instead of reaching out immediately to acknowledge and reassure them, you spend two days figuring out exactly what happened so you can address the issue comprehensively.

Meanwhile, the other person is forming a view, sometimes even making a decision.

In your mind, you are doing the right thing. But much of the leverage is already gone.

In both cases, the mistake is not a lack of effort. It is failing to recognise the highest-leverage action at that moment.

Sometimes the right response is not the most complete one. It is the fastest credible one.

A thoughtful note within 24 hours can be more valuable than a polished deck a week later. An immediate acknowledgment of a concern can matter more than a perfect explanation after the damage is done.

Good judgment is not only knowing what to do.

It is knowing what matters most right now.

Because timing is not separate from quality.

Sometimes, timing is the quality.
