Guard Against Negative Self-Talk

Negative Self-Talk

There will be moments, and we will all experience them in our careers, relationships, and goal pursuits when we are not feeling good about who, what, and where we are. People around us will tell us that we are not good enough or that we can’t do something. We succumb to the negativity and compound the problem for ourselves by indulging in a lot of negative self-talk that keeps eroding our self-confidence.

There is a voice in our head that keeps pushing us down-What will happen if things don’t go as per the plan? I can’t make it; I should have done something different, I am not as good, etc.

Unfortunately, thoughts influence actions. Therefore, any negative self-talk will have a direct impact on how we act and execute.

To protect ourselves from the insidious impact of negative self-talk, we must all have positive affirmations that remind us of our self-worth and capabilities.

I have a set of positive affirmations that I invoke whenever I sense doubt, uncertainty, or fear taking root. So instead of indulging in negative self-talk, I pull out my armory of positive affirmations.

  • I have come so far with being good.
  • I always find my answers.
  • I am the captain of my ship and the master of my fate.

Developing self-confidence is a skill. It doesn’t just happen on its own. To be at the top of our game and confident, we must keep alert and prevent negative self-talk from taking root, particularly when things don’t go the way we want them to.
