In the workplace, leadership boils down to two things: Can your team trust you, and do they respect you?
- Trust: Even before you say a word, your team is sizing you up. Trust comes from being warm and authentic and connecting with people.
- Respect: It kicks in when your team sees you know your stuff. Your competence is the primary driver of respect.
Leadership is about influence, and trust is where it starts. Build that trust by being genuine. Make sure your team believes in your intentions before they even think about your skills. That’s leadership done right.
