Set Ambitious Goals

ambitious goals

The real value in setting goals is not in their achievement. The acquisition of the things you want is strictly secondary. The major reason for setting goals is to compel you to become the person it takes to achieve them.

I recently found myself sharing Jim Rohn’s timeless advice with a friend’s son who is transitioning from high school to college. This is how the conversation went.

Let’s say you aim to get admission to a top college anywhere in the world. The value of being accepted into your dream college is more than just getting the admission. The bigger value lies in the discipline, effort, and work you have to put in to qualify for that college you aspire to. In pursuing this goal, you have no other choice but to evolve into a high-caliber student.

Another way to approach the same challenge is to ask yourself what qualities students who get admission into the top colleges possess. Your answers might clarify what areas you must work on and improve.

My message to the young lad was to set the most ambitious goals he could to inspire him to become a better, well-rounded student. Ambitious goals are a necessary catalyst for personal growth.
