Leave Room For Surprise

We like to believe that good decisions come from knowing what happens next.

But when I look back, many of the biggest breakthroughs in my life were not things I could have predicted.

A conversation led somewhere unexpected. An opportunity appeared from a direction I was not looking. Something I started for one reason became valuable for another.

At the time, none of it looked certain. That was precisely the point.

If we insist on knowing the outcome before we act, we may only choose paths whose outcomes are already obvious.

Judgment and preparation still matter.

But perhaps we also need to leave some room for surprise.

We do not always need certainty about the future. Sometimes we just need to keep moving and stay open enough to recognise an opportunity when it appears.
