Weekend Story-True Nature
September 15, 2024
There was a Monk swimming in the middle of a river when he spotted a scorpion struggling in the water. Without hesitation, he reached out to save it. But, as soon as his hand touched the scorpion, it stung him, causing him to drop it back into the river. The scorpion began to drown again. Despite the pain, the monk reached out to rescue it again. And again, the scorpion stung him. This cycle continued: each time monk tried to help, the scorpion would sting, and each time, he would drop it back into the water, only to rescue it again.
A bystander on the riverbank, observing this, called out, “Why do you persist in saving the scorpion when it only causes you pain?”
The monk replied with a gentle smile, “The scorpion’s nature is to sting, just as my nature is to save. I must remain true to my own nature, even when faced with harm.”
