Weekend Story- The Wise Socrates
December 15, 2024
The Oracle Of Delphi once declared, “None is wiser than Socrates in the whole of Athens.”
Perplexed, Socrates engaged with poets, politicians, and artisans to figure out the meaning of the Oracle’s enigmatic proclamation. At first, everyone seemed very knowledgeable, but something felt off. He didn’t understand why until finally, the truth struck him—what was missing wasn’t their knowledge but humility. They spoke as though they knew everything in their domain.
At that moment, Socrates understood the Oracle’s meaning: his wisdom lay in recognizing the limits of his own knowledge.
Where others were blind to their ignorance, he saw it clearly.
“I neither know nor think I know,” he realized, and in recognizing this truth, he stood wiser than them all.
