Obsessed with the Goal, Blind to the Path
May 18, 2025
I was recently speaking with someone who is desperately trying to land his next big role. It’s clear that everything he does is filtered through one question: Will this help me get the job?
It reminded me of this idea—when you’re constantly seeking, you stop seeing. You miss the learning, the opportunities, the unexpected insights right in front of you.
Having a goal is good. But being fixated on it can narrow your world. Unwittingly, you become obsessed with the goal and blind to the path.
Sometimes, the best way to find what you’re looking for is to stop chasing and start noticing.
