The Alignment Excuse
July 17, 2025
“We need more alignment” is a signal for “no one wants to make the call.”
I’ve seen it often. As individuals in a team, we agree on the problem and even the direction, but still don’t move forward.
Because action means ownership. And ownership means risk.
So we hide behind more meetings, more discussion, more alignment.
But alignment isn’t the goal. Progress is.
Great teams don’t chase consensus. They move with trust.
Someone takes the lead. Others follow. And no one blames.
If you’re stuck in an alignment loop, it’s perhaps time to ask…
Is this about clarity, or just fear of being wrong or failing?
