Think Beyond Yourself
August 8, 2021

There are moments and situations where I feel distracted and disturbed, unable to focus and concentrate on anything.
Looking back at all those moments, I have noticed something familiar in all of such moments. I was doing something from the point of self-interest.
- How will this affect me?
- Will I get the offer?
- What have I gained or lost?
- Are people judging or appreciating me?
- I can’t do this.
Today, I can recognize the pattern as soon as I feel disturbed. The root cause of my scattered mind is almost always some selfish or self-centered perspective I am carrying.
Putting it differently, I have given myself this simple mental model.
Selfishness and self-centeredness always lead to a disturbed mind. In contrast, I am always relaxed and peaceful when doing something beyond myself for the people around me, my organization, family, or community.
The power of choice is always with me- I know what to do to be peaceful.
