Weekend Story-The Glass Of Water

Glass of water

Once, a professor stood before his class with a glass of water in hand. He held it up for all to see and asked, “How heavy do you think this glass of water is?”

The students offered various guesses, but the professor continued without waiting for their answers.

“It doesn’t matter how heavy it is,” he said. “What truly matters is how long I hold it.”

With that, he held the glass out at arm’s length, his arm steady and unwavering. The class watched as he maintained the position, seemingly effortless at first.

“As time passes,” the professor continued, “the weight of the glass doesn’t change. But the longer I hold onto it, the heavier it feels.”

The students nodded in understanding as they observed the professor’s arm beginning to tremble under the strain.

“In life,” the professor explained, “we often carry burdens—worries, fears, and stresses—that weigh us down. Like this glass of water, these burdens become heavier the longer we hold onto them.”

He paused, allowing his words to sink in.

“The key to managing stress,” he concluded, “is not to avoid or ignore it, but to learn when to set it down. Just as I will eventually lower this glass and give my arm a rest, we must learn to let go of our burdens and find relief.”
