Go Positive, Go First
May 7, 2024
You two were colleagues in your previous organization for six years, and you say he is also your good friend. If you need access to someone senior in the organization where he works, why aren’t you contacting him to help you make the necessary introductions? I asked my colleague, intrigued by his reluctance to make the first move in reaching out to an old friend. He was as surprised as I was on why he did not take the lead in reaching out to his friend. He promptly connected with the friend the next day, and the necessary introductions were done without too much hitch.
The most successful people are proactive and don’t wait around for things to happen to them; they take positive action and make things happen.
Waiting around for things to come to you is not a winning strategy. Whether it’s reaching out to an old friend, seeking an apology, or clarifying an issue that is bothering you about the other person, don’t wait for someone else to make the first move. Take control of the situation and make it happen.
Don’t wait for someone else to make the first move. Go positive and go first.
