Clarity Is A Great Filter
September 29, 2025
At work, we often feel overwhelmed by the number of options in front of us — which project to prioritize, which meetings to attend, and which opportunities to pursue. The sheer volume of choices can paralyze us.
There is a simple decision-making heuristic. When you know what you really want, most choices eliminate themselves.
Think of a team that has decided its north star is customer trust. Suddenly, the debate about adding a flashy feature versus fixing a nagging service issue disappears — the right choice is obvious. Or an individual who knows she wants to build a career in product design — she doesn’t waste energy worrying about roles in sales or operations.
Clarity is a great filter. It reduces noise and frees up energy to act decisively. The struggle is rarely in choosing; it’s in getting clear on what you want. Once you have that, the rest falls away.
