Temporal Awareness

Temporal Awareness

Most of us only know how to do one of the two — rush through everything or wait passively for life to happen. I call this the Sprinter mode and the Monk mode.

But mastery lies in holding both energies at once. Be a Sprinter. Move like you’re late — act with urgency, intention, and focus. It forces clarity. You stop wasting time on trivia because the clock is ticking. Yet, wait like you’re early — stay calm when outcomes take time. That patience keeps your emotions from hijacking your judgment. Be a Monk when it comes to outcomes.

Philosophers call this balance temporal awareness — knowing when to accelerate and when to surrender. It’s the antidote to both anxiety and procrastination. The best performers in any field move fast in execution but remain unhurried in expectation. I’m aware of this concept and consciously try to balance these two modes.

Act with speed. Expect with stillness. That’s how you win in both the short run and the long game.
