Helping folks with practical tips to manage themselves better

The Five Year Frame

five year frame

Having built a multi-million dollar business from scratch, I have learned something revealing.

Anything substantial takes time.

When I look back at the journey in six-month blocks, no single stretch looks dramatic. Some quarters felt slow. Some felt messy. Some felt like nothing much was moving.

But when I look at the same journey across five years, the progress is extraordinary. What looks ordinary in small pieces becomes pathbreaking in the larger frame.

I think this applies to most meaningful pursuits.

Building a business. Growing in a role. Raising a family. Writing a book. Becoming fit. Building a reputation.

Most deeply satisfying accomplishments need at least three to five years.

That is slower than one would like.

But once you accept that progress is slow, the choice becomes clear. Start today.

Because five years will pass anyway.

And if we lose steam every time progress feels invisible, we may keep walking away from things just before they begin to compound.

That would be the real tragedy.

Not slow progress.

Mistaking slow progress for no progress.
