Playing To Win Or Playing Not To Lose?
April 10, 2024
Playing not to lose means sticking to familiar routines, avoiding risks, and maintaining a sense of security to steer clear of failure and the discomfort it brings. While this approach may feel safe, it ultimately leads to stagnation.
On the other hand, playing to win requires embracing risk-taking, accepting failure as part of the learning process, and giving up the need for constant safety. This approach involves going beyond your comfort zone, being open to making mistakes and prioritizing personal and professional growth.
We all have a choice between playing not to lose and playing to win. Although playing not to lose may provide temporary security, it is only when you play to win that you stand a chance to succeed. It is the path to both personal and professional advancement as it encourages resilience, innovation, and continuous improvement.
André Gide, the French author and Nobel Prize winner said it beautifully-You cannot discover new oceans unless you have the courage to lose sight of the shore.
