Ignore The Noise
May 25, 2024
In the face of relentless criticism from her detractors for some of her policies, Margaret Thatcher is supposed to have said, “If my critics saw me walking over the Thames, they would say it was because I couldn’t swim.”
It is futile to try to please everyone or seek the validation of others. No matter what you do, there will always be detractors who will have an opinion on your actions.
So, stop beating yourself up for what others may say about you. Stay true to your own path and convictions, regardless of others’ opinions. Don’t let them undermine your self-image or confidence. Instead, let their words fuel your resilience and belief in yourself. Keep moving forward.
A very popular old Hindi song goes, “Kuch Toh Log Kahenge, Logon Ka Kaam Hai Kehana.” The lyrics literally mean people will always have something to say, for it is their job to say!! You just have to learn to ignore the noise of criticism and not let it derail your convictions.
As I write this, I am also reminded of what an old boss told me when I went to him complaining about someone’s opinion of me: “Ignore the opinion or criticism of people you would never go to for advice.”
