Just Start
October 5, 2024
“Tell me about the product conversations you’ve had in the last week,” I asked the new sales executive, who was just fifteen days into the job.
“I’m trying to learn more about the solutions. I haven’t spoken to anyone yet. I don’t feel comfortable going out and talking to people. I need to become a little better on the products, as I don’t want to make mistakes,” he responded.
“Just start. Don’t wait to become an expert before you start having conversations. Start having conversations, and you’ll become an expert in the process,” I replied.
Every expert starts out as a beginner. Whatever your line of work, your life will change when you embrace this fact.
The beautiful thing about life is that no matter where you are today—you are always just one good action away from being in a better place tomorrow.
Focus on that one action in front of you. Don’t get overwhelmed by the hundreds of steps you think you still need to take to reach your goal. Just focus on the next step.
The best action is always the next action you take. Just start walking. Remember, the only way to lose is by being too afraid to try.
