You Belong !!
January 9, 2025
In my thirties, I wore confidence like a badge—brash, self-assured, and ready to take on the world. But beneath that surface, there was always a nagging feeling: “Am I really good enough?” It was hard to shake, especially when surrounded by incredibly talented and competent teammates in high-caliber work environments. For the longest time, I couldn’t put a name to it until I came across the term “imposter syndrome.”
I struggled with it for years, questioning whether I truly belonged in the rooms I was in. It took me a long time to realize that imposter syndrome, like so many fears, isn’t real. It’s just noise in your head. If anything, I now think of it as a sort of defense mechanism—a way to push myself to work harder, to strive to be better, to earn my place.
But here’s the thing: trusting yourself doesn’t come naturally. It’s not some magical trait you’re born with; it’s something you earn. It’s a competence you build over time by showing up, doing the work, failing, and succeeding—again and again.
There’s no quick fix for imposter syndrome. The only way out is through.
You keep putting yourself out there, no matter how intimidating it feels—every experience, good or bad, chips away at that self-doubt.
Over time, you start to see your own value. You learn to trust your instincts and to appreciate your own unique approach. That voice in your head—the one telling you to be careful, to watch out—think of it like a worried parent. Listen to it, acknowledge it, but do what you have to do.
Today, there is not much that fazes me. I’ve learned to trust myself, to do what’s right for me, and to own my place.
And if you’re grappling with imposter syndrome, let me tell you this: keep showing up. You’ll find your footing. You’ll earn your trust in yourself. And one day, you’ll realize you’ve always belonged.
