Decide Based On Odds, Not Emotions
April 17, 2025
The other day, I was debating whether to invest time and energy into a new market we’ve been eyeing. The upside looked exciting, but so did the risk. I found myself stuck, listing pros and cons, and unable to decide.
Then I took a pause and asked myself a better question- What’s likely to happen?
A lot of fears seem big until you examine the odds. And sometimes the rewards that get you excited aren’t as realistic as they seem.
So I wrote down the top three things I feared, and the top three outcomes I hoped for. Then I put a probability next to each. Suddenly, the noise cleared.
That small shift—from what could happen to what’s likely—helped me decide with clarity, not anxiety.
If you’re stuck at a decision point, try this. Map the outcomes, assign rough odds, and see where that leads you. Clarity comes from judging odds, not just outcomes.
It’s a habit I’ve come to trust.
PS: I decided against targeting the market for the time being.
